Standards of hotel accommodation in Turkey vary quite considerably, particularly in the seaside resorts. Care should be taken when making bookings direct with hotels that the standards of comfort and service offered are as described.

Hotels are regulated in Turkey and classified into five 'star rating' bands, plus an additional 'Special Class' rating that applies to hotels not falling within the regular classification system.

With the exception of hotels in Istanbul, Ankara and some hotels in the larger beach resorts, the standard of hotel accommodation in Turkey is about one star rating lower than equivalent international star ratings.

Many resort hotels deal directly with European tour operators which generally means they are only available during the summer season between April and October. These hotels are often not available for independent travelers or for bookings of less than 7 days duration. Years of ruthless price cutting by the European tour operators have left little or no cash for repairs and maintenance in many resort hotels, such hotels are excluded from our listings.
